What is Whipped Soap?
Whipped soap is a soft, fluffy cleansing product with a light, mousse-like consistency. Created by blending nourishing oils, butters and a blend of gentle surfactants it provides a rich, creamy lather without stripping the skin of it’s natural moisture. Because of its unique texture and hydrating formula whipped soap is actually a multi-use product and can have several different uses in your bathroom.
Body Wash & Hand Soap A small fingertip-sized scoop lathers richly and cleanses your entire body, a little goes a long way and creates the most luxurious foam, it’s has the consistency of a rich, buttercream and feels like you’re washing in satin sheets.
Shaving Cream, the fluffy, dense consistency allows a razor to glide smoothy, providing a moisturising batter that helps prevent nicks, cuts and razor burn. I have an un-fragranced formula that I created specially for both men and women.
Exfoliator: when mixed with sugar and jojoba beads it creates the most luxurious, hydrating body scrub ever, more information about that below.
Shampoo, it sounds a little strange but I have pH balanced the formula so that it can be used as a lightweight, moisturising shampoo that leaves your hair feeling soft and conditioned and lightly scented. Because of the oils and butters there is no need for a separate conditioner.
Why Should I Use Whipped Soap?
Because whipped soap is such a luxurious, cloud-like cleanser that provides a rich, creamy lather that deeply cleanses without stripping away natural skin moisture it offers an excellent alternative to traditional bar soaps and body washes.
Intense Hydration; because they are made using such nourishing oils and butters (I also add some extras, but more on that later) it helps to keep your skin deeply moisturised and soft after every wash, no more tight, itchy skin when you jump out of the shower.
Gentle on Sensitive Skin; The aerated, creamy formula is significantly less likely to strip or irritate your skin compared to traditional, harsher bar soaps. Honestly this stuff is the absolute next level in body cleansing!
Highly Concentrated; Because air is whipped into the base, it expands, meaning a little bit actually goes a long way. A single scoopable jar last much longer than standard liquid body wash. A ten cent piece size scoop is all you need, especially if you use a loofah.
What Makes My Formula So Good?
I absolutely LOVE this stuff… I choose to add jojoba beads to mine and use it alongside my foaming shower oil for the ultimate in body skincare routine. Many whipped soaps are made using premade foaming bases, but I chose to create my own formula the equates to the most luxurious, boutique spa-like experience in your own shower.
Custom Surfactant Blend
I chose 3 surfactants for my bubbly blend, firstly SCI (or Sodium Cocoyl Isothienate), this is my primary foaming and cleansing agent. It is made from coconut oil and is ultra-mild yet creates a rich, dense, velvety lather without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. It has the most luscious texture building a dense “whipped cream” foam that lifts dirt and oils from the skin without causing dryness or irritation, making it ideal for sensitive skin. It leaves your skin feeling hydrated and conditioned.
Next is a mild co-surfactant known as Hostapon SG; it is a premium, gentle surfactant and is responsible for creating a rich, luxurious lather, building a stable, fluffy, cloud-like volume that provides a moisturising, silky-smooth after-feel without leaving skin feeling stripped.
Lastly, Cocomidopropyl Betaine; this is an incredibly mild, secondary surfactant that boosts foam and works with SCI to create a thick, rich and creamy lather that resembles buttercream frosting. Because it is made from coconut oil it also helps to provide hydration and reduces the drying, stripping effects that many cleansers can cause.
Butters and Oils
Firstly, castor oil, it acts as a super-booster for lather, helping to create dense, creamy and long-lasting bubbles. Because it acts as a humectant it also draws moisture into the skin, preventing the drying feeling that some heavy-cleansing soaps can cause. It also adds “slip” to the soap making it beautifully smooth to spread and creates enhanced glide when using as a shaving soap.
Rice bran oil acts as a powerful emollient that deeply conditions the skin while helping to produce a richer, creamier lather. It adds a luxurious, velvety texture to the whipped base and provides lasting hydration without leaving a greasy or heavy residue. Rich is essential fatty acids and proteins, it softens and hydrates dry, sensitive or mature skin types. It is naturally high in Vitamin E and antioxidants which help nourish and protect the skin barrier. It stabilised the bubbles giving a dense, luxurious and lotion-like foam that offers a mild, non-stripping cleanse making the whipped soap idea for daily use.
Shea Butter, acts as a rich, natural emollient that deeply moisturises the skin barrier and provides a luxurious, creamy texture. It replenishes the skin barrier and helps prevent dryness. It is packed with fatty acids that deeply hydrates the skin, creates a rich, stable and creamy lather that feels velvety during use. It is exceptionally milk making it perfect for sensitive or irritated skin and contains vitamins (like E and A) that help improve skin elasticity and promote healing.
Varisoft Emulsifying Wax
This serves purpose for both skin and hair care options. If you’re using your whipped soap as a shampoo this is a conditioning agent, it adds slip, improves both wet and dry detangling, provides a creamy texture to the whip and leaves your hair soft and manageable without weighing it down. Because it isn’t heavy like other conditioning waxes it conditions while maintaining hair volume and bounce.
From a skincare perspective it transform your standard whipped soap into a luxurious, lotion-like cleanser by providing a distinctive, dry and powdery-smooth sensory profile conditioning the skin without leaving a greasy residue.
Kaolin Clay
This acts as a stabiliser, texture enhancer and a mild detoxifier. It helps thicken the fluffy lather for a creamier feel, absorbs excess oils without stripping the skin and acts as an anchor to help your soap retain its fragrance both in the jar and on your skin.
When used as a shampoo ingredient kaolin acts as a gentle detoxifier, scalp soother and volume booster. It absorbs excess oil and product buildup without stripping hair of it’s natural moisture, while providing a rich slip for a silky texture that helps the product to glide through the hair reducing friction and preventing breakage. It helps to leave hair looking fuller and more voluminous and also acts as a fragrance anchor helping the scent of your shampoo last much longer in your hair.
Genadvance Hydra
Is a premium, 100% naturally-derived conditioning agent and moisturiser. It dramatically boosts skin and hair hydration, leaving a silky silicone-like smooth feel without any greasy residue. Because it contains glycerin it is also a powerful humectant that draws moisture into the skin. It functions as an eco-friendly stand-in for silicones giving the soap a luxurious, sleek and smooth gliding texture. It is also biodegradable, ECOCERT and COSMOS approved and is mild enough to be used in formulations intended for children or those with sensitive skin. It smooths the hair cuticle which actively reduces flyaways and frizz and delivers the slippy and sleek after-feel of traditional silicones without leaving behind a film, this also acts as a detangler making both wet and dry combing significantly easier and reducing breakage.
Hydrolysed Silk Protein
This acts as a premium moisturising and conditioning agent. It adds a luxurious, “silky” slip to the lather, improves moisture retention to prevent skin dryness and leaves the skin feeling exceptionally soft and smooth after washing. It significantly improves the texture of the soap’s bubbles, giving you a creamier, more velvet-like foam that glides smoothly across the skin. Silk proteins are humectants that attract water to the skin and form a light protective barrier, locking in hydration. This prevents the soap from leaving your skin feeling stripped or tight. The amino acids deeply nourish the skin, helping to calm irritation.
When used as a shampoo hydrolysed silk acts as a powerful conditioning and strengthening agent. Because its molecular structure is small enough to penetrate the hair shaft, it reinforces weakened hair, improves elasticity to prevent snapping and lays down a protective barrier that locks in moisture and boosts natural shine. It penetrates the hair cortex to patch up damage and reinforce the hair’s natural keratin structure, it also locks in hydration giving hair a luminous sheen and soft feel.
I also have a vegan-friendly version made with Guar Cat that replaces the silk. It costs a wee bit more but don’t forget to choose that option when you put it in your cart if you want to request the ingredient change as it’s a made to order item :)
Jojoba Beads
Whipped soap is traditionally used as a base for sugar scrubs but I don’t really enjoy the scratchy, ultra-scrubby feeling of the sugar grains so I went in search for another option that was gentle on skin, didn’t upset the skin barrier and was still environmentally friendly and I settled on Jojoba Beads.
They are small, spherical wax spheres made from hydrogenated jojoba oil. They are a gentle, natural and fully biodegradable alternative to harsh physical exfoliants (like sugar or walnut shells) and environmentally harmful plastic beads. Because they are perfectly round and smooth, they roll across the skin to remove dead skin cells without causing the microscopic tears or scratches associated with jagged physical exfoliants.
Being that they are derived from a renewable plant source, these beads dissolve and degrade naturally without polluting waterways unlike traditional plastic microbeads. Since they are made from jojoba wax, the beads possess natural emollient properties that hydrate the skin rather than stripping its natural moisture barrier. They essentially melt into skin providing a protective layer. They are also very mild which makes them really suitable for sensitive complexions and are a great alternative to those who have nut allergies or can’t handle other exfoliant types.
If you wish to turn your whipped soap into a body scrub please make sure you choose to “Add Jojoba Beads” before putting into your cart. It does increase the cost of the final soap.
How Do I Use Whipped Soap?
As a Body Wash:
Simply scoop a ‘dollop’ (about the size of a 10 cent coin) into your hands or onto a loofah. Add some water and massage the soap to create a rich, creamy lather. Wash your body and then rinse thoroughly. You may go over the shower timer, these bubbles are seriously soooo good.
As a Body Scrub:
Scoop a 10 cent piece sized amount into your hand, add some water and start to make a lather before gently massaging over your skin in circular motions. The jojoba beads gently polish your skin without that uncomfortable scratchy feeling from traditional sugar scrubs, when you’re done simply rinse off under running water.
As a Shaving Soap:
The thick, airy lather creates a protective, cushiony barrier that helps razors glide smoothly without clogging up. Simple lather up some product in your hands and apply a generous layer directly to wet legs, underarms or intimate areas, let sit for a moment and then shave as usual.
Gentlemen, if you are using my unfragranced option for your daily shaving simply splash some warm water on your face scoop a 5 cent piece sized amount onto your palm and rub hands together to create a lather. Apply to your face adding more water if you want a thicker, creamier lather. Spread in an even layer over your beard and shave as you usually would. Then rinse your face clean.
As a Shampoo
Detangle dry hair first before jumping in the shower, it makes it a lot easier to distribute the product and prevent breakage. As you normally would saturate your hair with warm water scoop out a 5 cent piece sized amount (you can always add more if you need it) and rub between your palms to create a thick, foamy lather. Gently massage into your scalp and then work down the ends of your hair. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and proceed as you normally would.
